Some
folks call Howard Lederer the Poker Professor. While the name certainly fits, the poker world doesn't offer too much
competition for such a title. The competition for the title of "poker hothead" or "poker goofball"
or "poker tilter" would be much more intense. Be that as it may, Howard is a welcome reminder that poker is
a game for money. Taking home the pelts is how the game is scored. Being a dancing dingbat has no monetary value in a
poker game. On the other hand, outthinking, outwitting and outplaying your opponents takes you to the top of the mountain
where the poker pots of gold reside. Some may think it isn't that interesting to just work to be better than your opponents,
but that's just as well, since poker is a puzzle game where you have to think where and how to use the pieces you
have at your disposal. It's a game of the
head, heart and instincts. Its a good idea to bet on the professors who study the game, not on the lab rats being studied. --
